 is nearing when our boats will replace the ice on our favorite lakes 
and there will be an influx of campers heading to their favorite 
locations. All this activity increases the chances of transferring alien
 invaders (invasive species) from one location to another.&amp;nbsp; We need to 
be vigilant in our role of protecting our beloved lakes and forests.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The
 DNR has been actively educating and enforcing laws to stop these 
invaders, but should it even be necessary? Shouldn't we, the people who 
love and use our lakes and forests, take it upon ourselves to do this 
without fear of fines.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;I  applaud the DNR in their 
efforts to protect our natural resources, but it is our responsibility 
to do everything we can to protect the wilderness without consequences. 
The question is how do we shift the paradigm from regulations that have 
to be created and enforced to us being vigilant and taking the 
responsibility for our actions.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;We  change everything 
we touch, often times not realizing the effects until  they are too 
late. That is exactly what has occurred around many parts of the world, 
including Minnesota.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;These alien invaders  not only 
attack our waterways, but our forests, wetlands, and any niche  that is 
similar to their home conditions. While not all of these invaders cause 
problems, many die because they simply cannot adapt to these new 
conditions. Even though the habitat is similar to their needs,  these 
invaders are just not able to compete and survive.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Those
  that survive and flourish cause the problems and get the press. These 
invasive species lack competition and predators that kept them in check 
in their native locations. With nothing to keep them in check, they 
spread like the plague and cause problem. These cases are what you read 
about in press reports and news stories.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;What can we 
do? Make sure you are educated and aware of the rules! Don't be ignorant
  and think that your actions do not affect the environment. It is that 
mentality that continues the spread of these species throughout areas

These venison lettuce wraps rival any lettuce wraps found at all the popular restaurants.&amp;nbsp; &lt;br&gt;

You will need approximately a&lt;b&gt; 1 1/2 pound venison roast&lt;/b&gt;.&lt;br&gt;
&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; &lt;br&gt;
Slice the roast thinly when it is partially frozen to get uniform 
slices.&amp;nbsp; Cut the roast roughly to these dimensions: ~1/4&quot; thick x 1/2&quot; 
wide x 2&quot; long strips.&lt;br&gt;
&lt;br&gt;
Marinade the meat in a resealable bag with the following ingredients:&lt;br&gt;
&lt;b&gt;1/2 cup soy sauce&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br&gt;
&lt;b&gt;1/2 cup Lawry's - Sesame Ginger Marinade&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br&gt;
&lt;b&gt;3 Tbsps white wine vinegar&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br&gt;
&lt;b&gt;1 Tsp sesame oil&lt;/b&gt; (Olive oil can be used as well, if doing this add 1/4 tsp liquid smoke)&lt;br&gt;
&lt;br&gt;
Marinade for at least 4 hours, overnight is even better.&lt;br&gt;
&lt;br&gt;

Saute 5-8 minutes on medium high, stirring often until mushrooms become tender.&lt;br&gt;

Add marinated meat and any liquid to the wok, maintain medium high heat and continue stirring for an additional 5 minutes.&lt;br&gt;
&lt;br&gt;
Now reduce heat to low and add the following ingredients and simmer until mixture bubbles again.&lt;br&gt;
&lt;br&gt;
&lt;b&gt;8 oz can sliced water chestnuts&lt;/b&gt;, drained (I slice these into thin strips as well)&lt;br&gt;
&lt;b&gt;1 Tbsp ground fresh ginger&lt;/b&gt;, 1 tsp ginger powder also works&lt;br&gt;
&lt;b&gt;2 Tbsps peanut butter&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br&gt;
&lt;b&gt;2 Tbsps oyster or hozin sauce&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br&gt;
&lt;b&gt;2 Tbsps sweet chili sauce&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br&gt;
&lt;b&gt;2 Tbsps soy sauce&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br&gt;
&lt;b&gt;1 Tbsp brown sugar&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br&gt;
&lt;b&gt;1/2 package cole slaw shredded greens&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br&gt;

 Each of these activities allows the archer to work on different skill 
sets yet all maintain or increase muscle memory and generally increase 
the comfort with your equipment. It is now time to find some hunting 
options again and what better way to do this than add a hunt to a 
vacation you are all ready planning. If you are not the snowbird type, 
this may be the incentive to take that first trip.&lt;br&gt;
&lt;br&gt;
If you are going to escape the snow and head south for 4-14 days packing
 your SPF and bow for the same trip may seem like an odd idea; however, 
once you do a little research you may be pleasantly surprised at the 
opportunities that are available to the bowhunter during the winter and 
spring.&lt;br&gt;
&lt;br&gt;
The broadest opportunity will be feral hogs, which have spread across 
the southern United States and Mexico like a plague. With their high 
reproductive rates, the bowhunting options for feral hogs are unlimited.
 In addition, the hunts can be as challenging as you make them and they 
provide excellent table fare. If you add bowfishing and exotics to the 
mix, you have a smorgasbord of bowhunting options.&lt;br&gt;

If your budget is tight, there are several ways to save cash yet still 
provide for a quality hunt. Some budget saving options are already built
 into your existing trip and others you will have to plan for. For 
example, since you already are on vacation the majority of your travel 
and lodging costs are already built it and covered as part of your 
vacation.&lt;br&gt;
&lt;br&gt;
Depending on the number of people traveling, driving, even with today's 
gas prices, is an option. Driving will eliminate shipping costs of your 
meat. Two coolers and dry ice will suffice for any deer sized or smaller
 animal for the ride home. If you are concerned about space, invest in a
 hitch cargo platform. There are many options available and they can be 
customized to your individual needs.&lt;br&gt;
&lt;br&gt;
Processing the animal yourself is an option. If you don't have the time 
or space, instruct the meat market to bone out the meat so you can 
process it to your liking when you get home. By saving money on the 
items discussed above, you may be able to upgrade your hunt or save for 
your next hunt or vacation.&amp;nbsp; &lt;br&gt;
&lt;br&gt;
If you are flying to your destination there are two items you will need 
to research: what are the airline regulations regarding your bow and 
broadheads and how will you transport your meat? You will need to 
contact any airlines you are traveling with about the exact regulations 
needed in transporting your archery equipment. Your meat can be shipped 
by the airlines or shipped via ground

sources. I like a case that will hold at least six broadheads, any make 
or model and have room for extra blades and miscellaneous items. This 
case also needs to fit within my bow case for added security.&lt;br&gt;

If you decide on a DIY hunt&lt;b&gt; &lt;/b&gt;you will have the satisfaction of 
completing it yourself and saving a lot of money. I have included the

If your vacation is shorter, don't forget to check on access to private 
land. This cuts down significantly on your costs and the landowners may

hogs, many landowners will be glad to do anything they can, even 
pre-scouting, to help you out! In most cases you can hunt feral hogs and
 bowfish year round; some states offer other hunting alternatives as

unlimited hunting options that outfitters and guides provide, here is

Before you pick a guide, interview them to see if your expectations and 
their style mesh. It is also beneficial to get a list of previous 
clients. I would recommend that you ask the outfitter/guide to give you
 contacts of both groups that were successful, and more importantly,

 that were not. It is assuring to get a positive recommendation from 
someone who did not have a successful hunt, but enjoyed their experience
 and would go back and try it again!&lt;br&gt;

If you're heading south this winter to escape the snow and cold, there 
are choices availability for the bowhunter willing to put in a little 
research. There are choices for all budgets and if you have saved, 
options are almost limitless. Remember, besides Feral hogs and 
bowfishing, the south is a hot spot for many exotics. While on vacation,
 the southern United States can give you the opportunity to hunt many

intended for grilled salmon fillets, but I have used it with trout and 
dense fleshed ocean fish with equal success.&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; &lt;br&gt;

You will want to leave the skin on the fillets for this delicious 
treat.&amp;nbsp; Squeeze lemon juice onto the meat side of the raw fish.&amp;nbsp; 
Refrigerate the fillets to keep them cold.&amp;nbsp; Prepare this mixture for 
each pound of fish you plan to grill. &lt;br&gt;

In a microwave safe bowl combine:&lt;br&gt;
&lt;b&gt;1 stick of butter, melted&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br&gt;
&lt;b&gt;1 tsp parsley flakes&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br&gt;
&lt;b&gt;1 tsp lemon pepper&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br&gt;
&lt;b&gt;1 tsp lemon juice&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br&gt;
&lt;b&gt;1/4 tsp basil leaves&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br&gt;
&lt;b&gt;1/4 tsp paprika&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br&gt;
&lt;b&gt;1/4 tsp thyme &lt;/b&gt;&lt;br&gt;
&lt;b&gt;1/4 tsp celery salt&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br&gt;
&lt;b&gt;1/4 tsp garlic salt&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br&gt;
&lt;b&gt;1/4 tsp onion powder&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br&gt;
&lt;br&gt;
Make this mixture and leave out at room temperature to blend 
flavors.&amp;nbsp; I would recommend at least 6 hours prior to grilling your 
fish. I have even prepared it the day before and left out overnight. &lt;br&gt;
&lt;br&gt;
Prior to grilling the fish, reheat the butter mixture.&amp;nbsp; Baste it heavily
 on the flesh side of the cold fish.&amp;nbsp; The baste will get quite thick.&amp;nbsp; 
The cold fish will cause the butter mixture to set up instantly.&amp;nbsp; When 
thoroughly basted, put the fish back in the refrigerator.&amp;nbsp; &lt;br&gt;
&lt;br&gt;
On a gas grill, spray the grates with an olive oil or non-stick spray 
intended for grilling.&amp;nbsp; Set the temperature to medium and let heat for 
10 minutes.&lt;br&gt;
&lt;br&gt;
During the grilling process I keep a small squirt bottle, set on stream, 
handy to take care of flare ups from the butter.&amp;nbsp; I know water and grease
 are not the best combination, but after several squires the water will 
cool the area down and take care of the flare ups.&lt;br&gt;
&lt;br&gt;
&lt;b&gt;For fish ~ 1/4&quot; to 1/2&quot; thick&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br&gt;
Put the fish flesh side down on the grill for 2 minutes (time it). Then 
turn the fillet over so the skin side is down.&amp;nbsp; Keep basting the flesh 
side with the butter mixture, as needed.&amp;nbsp; Grill for an additional 5-6 
minutes &lt;b&gt;or&lt;/b&gt; until the fish flesh flakes.&amp;nbsp; The skin will turn 
black, this will not affect the meat.&amp;nbsp; You can remove the flesh prior to
 serving or leave it attached. &lt;br&gt;
&amp;nbsp; &lt;br&gt;

round archery leagues available, however, the options increase in the 
winter, spring, and summer.&amp;nbsp; Winter is the most popular time for leagues
 in the north, as most of the local mainstream hunting options have 
closed, temperatures outside are not conducive to relaxed shooting, and 
many bowhunters want to practice and improve their shooting.&amp;nbsp; Most 
leagues run about 10-12 weeks, but you should contact your pro shop or 
range to find out their exact schedule. &lt;br&gt;
&lt;br&gt;
There are many different types of leagues and competitive levels that 
will fit any bowhunters skill level.&amp;nbsp; In fact, beginner and advanced 
archers can shoot in the same league.&amp;nbsp; Many leagues have a handicap 
system and different diameter bulls-eyes that will offer both types of 
shooters competitive options.&amp;nbsp; I will discuss three popular leagues that
 many pro-shops offer.&amp;nbsp; These leagues include, but are not limited to 
NFAA 300, Vegas, and 2-D/3-D.&amp;nbsp; There are many more leagues and even more
 offerings if you shoot outside league, but that is a different topic 
for a different time.&lt;br&gt;
&lt;br&gt;
&lt;b&gt;NFAA 300 League&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br&gt;
&lt;br&gt;
The most common indoor league is the NFAA 300.&amp;nbsp; The archers line up at 
20 yards and shoot at paper targets.&amp;nbsp; Children eleven and younger have 
the option to shoot at 10 yards.&amp;nbsp; Each archer shoots 5 arrows (60 total)
 at their targets.&amp;nbsp; When everyone on the line is finished shooting an 
end, the targets are scored by another person and the archers collect 
their arrows.&amp;nbsp; A 300 round consists of shooting a total of 60 arrows 
broken down into 12 scoring ends, with 5 arrows shot during each end.&amp;nbsp; 
There is a time limit of 4 minutes per end on competitive leagues.&amp;nbsp; 300 
league can be shot by anyone as beginner shooters can use a single spot 
that allows for a larger scoring area.&amp;nbsp; A single spot is one large 
bullseye the size of the paper target 16&quot;x 16&quot;.&amp;nbsp; Since beginner shooters
 tend to not have tight groups, there is a reduced chance of damaged 
arrows.&amp;nbsp; Beginner archers can score 5-4-3-2-1 on a single spot target. &lt;br&gt;

Once the archer's skill level increases and their arrows get closer and 
closer together, they can move up to a five spot target.&amp;nbsp; The scoring 
for five spot target is limited to 5-4.&amp;nbsp; The paper dimension is still 
16&quot; x 16&quot; but the target now has five small bullseyes on it.&amp;nbsp; This 
eliminates the possibility of robin hoods, where one arrow is shot down 
the center of another arrow.&amp;nbsp; While the five spot has a smaller scoring 
range, many advanced archers don't need the extra space and are able to 
hit only the bullseye.&amp;nbsp; The top score would be 300 with X's (bullseyes) 
used as a tie breaker.&amp;nbsp; One variation on this league is 360 where each X
 is counted as an extra point, which gives you the opportunity to earn 
an additional 60 points.&lt;br&gt;

&lt;b&gt;Vegas League&lt;/b&gt; &lt;br&gt;

Another common league is Vegas style, which has several options, either

eleven and younger also have the 10 yard option, similar to the NFAA 
300.&amp;nbsp; The biggest differences is that there are less arrows shot and 
there is a shorter time limit to complete the round.&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; A 300 round 
consists of 10 scoring ends, with 3 arrows shot during each end.&amp;nbsp; A 450 
round consists of 15  scoring ends, with 3 arrows shot during each end.&amp;nbsp;

Finally, if you're lucky enough to have the opportunity of a club that 
offers 2-D/3-D 
league, this will give you the best practice for bowhunting.&amp;nbsp; These 
leagues are similar to outdoor 3-D leagues.&amp;nbsp; The exceptions are the 
distances are closer, not all targets are foam, and the course is 
limited to within the building.&amp;nbsp; A 2-D/3-D course is comprised of a 
combination of life-size paper targets and foam targets.&amp;nbsp; These targets 
are placed at different angles and different distances.&amp;nbsp; Scoring for

between 2-D/3-D and the other leagues are that you get only one arrow

 to use range finders to help you find the actual distance.&amp;nbsp; This 
increases the complexity of this league as the archer not only has to 
make their shot, they have to be conscious of their competitors and what
 points/areas they have hit or missed.&amp;nbsp; On top of it all, they also have
 to judge the actual distance to the target, which comes into play when 
aiming/shooting at the smallest high point circles. &lt;br&gt;
&lt;br&gt;
Shooting in a league is an added way to perfect your shooting and have 
fun practicing.&amp;nbsp; Consistency is very important to achieving high scores 
in a league.&amp;nbsp; While you may just be shooting for fun and practice, most 
leagues have a tournament at the end that culminates your hard work.&amp;nbsp; 
Shooting in leagues competitive or not, with people watching, definitely
 adds pressure to your shooting.&amp;nbsp; The payoff?&amp;nbsp; You will have added one 
more notch in your extensive knowledge and skills as a bowhunter.&amp;nbsp; This 
should help downgrade buck fever the next time you see that big buck 
come in to bow range.&amp;nbsp; In my next article, I will share some hunting

extending your hunting season on small game, varmints, and predators 
will improve your hunting skills and increase your practice time, your 
skills can be improved in other ways as well.&amp;nbsp; That's what this article 
will focus on.&amp;nbsp; We will be heading indoors so you won't need to pack 
your gear or start your truck!&amp;nbsp; Scratching your head?&amp;nbsp; I am talking 
about shooting in your apartment, house, or garage. &lt;br&gt;
&lt;br&gt;
&lt;b&gt;Safety&lt;/b&gt;!&lt;br&gt;
&lt;br&gt;
Shooting indoors will take your practice session to the next level, but 
you should be extremely confident with your shooting skills before you 
partake in this activity.&amp;nbsp; If you are not absolutely sure you can make 
every shot, practice at an Archery shop first.&amp;nbsp; Focus and concentration 
is essential as you do not want to miss your target and send your arrow 
into the walls or your furnishings.&amp;nbsp; When shooting indoors with &lt;b&gt;a&lt;/b&gt;
 family or pets, safety is key.&amp;nbsp; Always ensure you are shooting in a 
safe manner and your family knows when and where you are practicing.&amp;nbsp; 
Your targets are much closer than you may normally practice at so make 
sure you know where your arrows will hit at this limited distance.&amp;nbsp; If 
you are in an apartment you will want to check your lease agreement to 
make sure you are not evicted or breaking any codes.&lt;br&gt;

If you are used to shooting outdoors and carelessly flinging arrows down
 range, this activity is not for you.&amp;nbsp; Practicing in your house works at
 increasing your precision shooting and will force you to concentrate 
under pressure.&amp;nbsp; If not, you will end up replacing your furnishings and 
decreasing your bank account.&amp;nbsp; There is no magical distance in my house.
 I have shot as close as 6 yards and as far as 14 yards.&amp;nbsp; The real key 
is to find a location that is safe and functional where you can practice
 for a given time with minimal disturbances. It is essential to keep out
 of the natural traffic flow areas in your house. My indoor range is set
 up in our basement and consists of standing in my daughters' playroom 
and shooting through a doorway into our furnace/storage room.&amp;nbsp; The 
hazards I face if an arrow would stray off course is, the doorway, 
furnace, water softener, camping equipment, and holiday decorations.&amp;nbsp; 
Concentration is key here.&amp;nbsp; While even at a short distance, you have to 
focus and eliminate all outside distractions, as there is no room for 
error and &quot;lost&quot; arrows!&amp;nbsp; Personally, I have done this now for two 
winters, shot about 2000 arrows indoors, and have never had a close 
call.&amp;nbsp; If you are not sure you can hit the target, visit your local pro 
shop's range!&lt;br&gt;

There are several types, sizes and variations available when purchasing a
 target.&amp;nbsp; My advise, skip the foam!&amp;nbsp; With the speed of modern bows and 
practicing at reduced distances, this is a disaster waiting to happen.&amp;nbsp; 
Besides arrow speed, the design of carbon small diameter arrows also 
allows for additional penetration.&amp;nbsp; With my setup, a Mathews Z7extreme 
bow and Victory VAP small diameter arrows, I have blown through friends 
foam targets as far as 50 yards while target shooting outside together.&amp;nbsp;
 I would recommend investing in a quality &quot;Block&quot; style target.&amp;nbsp; I 
purchased the Block Fusion two years ago and am completed satisfied.&amp;nbsp; My
 recommendation would be to buy a target that is large enough to allow 
you to comfortably shoot while using indoors.&amp;nbsp; The advantages of &quot;Block&quot;
 style targets are that they are made of layers.&amp;nbsp; These layers squeeze 
the arrow using friction to stop it.&amp;nbsp; Because of the layering, arrows 
are much easier to remove and nothing is stuck or melted to the arrow.&lt;br&gt;
&lt;br&gt;
&lt;b&gt;Don't Forget Technique &lt;/b&gt;&lt;br&gt;
&amp;nbsp; &lt;br&gt;
Anytime you shoot you need to be aware of your form.&amp;nbsp; I try to always be
 conscious of my stance, body position, grip, anchor points, and 
breathing.&amp;nbsp; If you truly want to work on specific skills, this is a 
great time to do it.&amp;nbsp; If done every time I practice, when hunting, my 
form will be correct.&amp;nbsp; The correct elements of the form will be 
ingrained into my subconscious, so when I draw back everything will feel
 right and I will be able to focus on my quarry.&amp;nbsp; I will be writing 
additional articles on form in the future.&amp;nbsp; If you need help now, I 
would recommend shooting at a pro shop and have them give you 
recommendations.&amp;nbsp; Another great method to monitor your technique is to 
video yourself and compare your form to what is recommended from archery
 books, magazines, or the internet.&lt;br&gt;
&lt;br&gt;
&lt;b&gt;Now What?&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br&gt;
&lt;br&gt;
So while working on form and shooting at a limited distance inside, how 
can I make my shooting challenging and fun?&amp;nbsp; When shooting indoors, I 
have two specific practice sessions that I like to add to my regular 
shooting routine.&amp;nbsp; My indoor range is currently set up at 11 yards and 
both of these exercises are challenging and fun.&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; &lt;br&gt;&lt;div class=&quot;separator&quot; style=&quot;clear: both; text-align: center;&quot;&gt;

My favorite practice session is to ignore the usual aiming spots on the 
target and add colored sticker microdots to the target.&amp;nbsp; This has two 
benefits.&amp;nbsp; First, they are smaller than the field tips and give me a 
real challenge to shoot at.&amp;nbsp; Most proficient shooters do not need a 
target the size of a quarter or larger at close range.&amp;nbsp; It further 
instills the bowhunting concept of picking a spot when shooting and not 
just shooting at the target.&amp;nbsp; Second, it makes use of the unused 
portions of targets.&amp;nbsp; Quality targets are not cheap and this practice 
activity allows me to take full advantage of the unused target area and 
still get a quality practice session in.&lt;br&gt;

To give my practice sessions a more real life scenario, I shoot at real 
pictures of the animals I plan to hunt.&amp;nbsp; I print most of these pictures 
off of the internet. I have included the directions that will make this 
easier for you. &lt;i&gt;(In Google, click on&amp;nbsp; &lt;b&gt;Images&lt;/b&gt; located in the 
upper left side of the computer screen.&amp;nbsp; Then type in the picture you 
want: deer, pronghorn, elk, or bear.&amp;nbsp; Pictures of your search will fill 
your computer screen. Below the search box but above the images you 
should see in grey writing&lt;b&gt; Search tools. &lt;/b&gt;This will give you a drop down bar of options.&amp;nbsp; Find the heading labeled &lt;b&gt;Any Size&lt;/b&gt; and choose large. This will give you a nice selection of large pictures to print and shoot at.)&lt;/i&gt;
 You can also save outdoor magazines or outdoor calendars that have 
paintings or photographs of wildlife and use them.&amp;nbsp; I keep a pile of 
pictures and a roll of tape on top of the target.&amp;nbsp; When I want to 
practice with them, all the supplies are immediately available to me. &lt;br&gt;

and make a habit of using it.&amp;nbsp; While your range will be at a limited 
distance, with the information I have shared with you, shooting indoors 
will still be beneficial.&amp;nbsp; Practicing in your home allows you to be 
comfortable, shoot on your own schedule, and eliminates having to pack 
up your gear.&amp;nbsp; Now there is no excuse to put your bow away at the end of
 deer season.&amp;nbsp; Remember if you are in an apartment or town-home, shoot 
smart (not at a shared wall) and check to see if there are ordinances

minutes until the onion starts to caramelize, add the sliced mushrooms

            <title>Bowhunting - What to do with the &quot;offseason,&quot; Part I</title>

            <description>As deer season draws to an end, many bowhunters are left with an empty 
feeling and dreams of the following year's hunt.&amp;nbsp; I wish next year would
 be here as well and while it would be nice to fast-forward the off 
season, it is not an option in the foreseeable future.&amp;nbsp; Now is the time 
to make those adjustments and perfect your performance.&amp;nbsp; The worst thing
 you can do is put your bow away.&amp;nbsp; What you do right now, will build the
 foundation for next year's hunting success.&lt;br&gt;
&lt;br&gt;
During this five part series, I will highlight options that will keep 
you in shape and serve as motivational factors in and of themselves.&amp;nbsp; An
 advantage you will notice immediately is that you will have retained 
your muscle memory and strength from shooting year round.&amp;nbsp; Remember to 
keep your bow poundage within comfortable shooting limits as this will 
help prevent incorrect shooting form and actually build strength and 
endurance.&amp;nbsp; By shooting regularly and with a comfortable draw weight, 
you can actually reduce the chances of injury.&amp;nbsp; If you feel the need to 
crank up your bow a few pounds during the deer season, this year round 
shooting should give you a solid foundation without the worry of 
injuring yourself.&amp;nbsp; I personally keep the settings on my bow (poundage) 
the same all year to eliminate any additional variables that may 
negatively affect my shooting performance.&lt;br&gt;
&lt;br&gt;
Part I of this series will focus on continual hunting opportunities that
 you may find locally or that offer economical options if you are a 
traveling hunter.&amp;nbsp; I will be considering $250 and under as an economical
 option for these nonresident hunts.&amp;nbsp; I have included several locations 
from around the US that will give you a comparison to what is available 
here in Minnesota.&amp;nbsp; Most of your quarry will be smaller than the vital 
area on your average deer.&amp;nbsp; What exactly are we talking about?&amp;nbsp; Small 
game, varmints, and predators.&amp;nbsp; All of these critters will provide 
unique challenges to the bowhunter, whose main focus may have always 
been the whitetail.&amp;nbsp; Scent control, shot placement, camouflage, 
estimating distances, animal awareness, stalking, and slow and steady 
draw of your bow will all be pushed to their limits hunting these 
animals. &amp;nbsp; &lt;br&gt;
&lt;br&gt;
While the focus of these five articles deals with archery and 
bowhunting, you may apply these tips to other hunting methods as well.&amp;nbsp; 
You will, of course, have to check the local game laws, but I have 
included summaries of several states from around the US, starting with 
my home state of Minnesota.&amp;nbsp; Depending on whether you are a resident or 
non-resident, your choice of weapon, and your location, there may be 
some differences in the laws, so please follow your individual state's 
fish and game laws.&amp;nbsp; If in doubt, contact your local conservation 
officer and they should be more than happy to help you decipher the 
laws.&amp;nbsp; I have used them several times and was happy I did.&amp;nbsp; Not only did
 they help with legal advise, they also gave me some tips and locations 
to hunt.&lt;br&gt;
&lt;br&gt;
What can you hunt?&amp;nbsp; There is a wide range of small game, varmints, and 
predator hunting options available across the nation.&amp;nbsp; Most have liberal
 limits, cheap license fees, and extended seasons which allow you to 
hunt well into the New Year.&amp;nbsp; I have included some ideas and general 
regulations from Minnesota where I currently live and hunt.&amp;nbsp; For 
comparison and fun, I have included 4 additional states.&amp;nbsp; They are 
located clockwise (northeast, southeast, southwest, and northwest) 
across the United States.&amp;nbsp; I have included the deer seasons for these 
states to inform you when there may be a higher level of hunters in the 
woods.&amp;nbsp; In addition, I have summarized each of the state's Fish and Game
 regulations for this current year 2012-2013 and included links to

Starting with my home state, there are plenty of options for the hunter 
pursuing food, sport, or profit.&amp;nbsp; Some options include: Rabbits and 
Squirrels, which end February 28th, and Raccoon, Red Fox, Gray Fox, 
Badger, and Opossum, which close March 15.&amp;nbsp; Any unprotected animal 
listed within the regulations has no closed season and may be hunted 
year round.&amp;nbsp; A couple of examples include coyote, skunk, common pigeon, 
and several imported game birds.&amp;nbsp; The first Crow season opens March 1st

As we head to the northeast I chose New York State as my next 
destination.&amp;nbsp; With similar climates, New York proved to be very 
comparable to Minnesota in huntable prey options and seasons.&amp;nbsp; The state
 is divided into two zones, north and south. They have slightly 
different seasons.&amp;nbsp; I will be condensing them so if you &lt;u&gt;choose&lt;/u&gt; to 
hunt there you will have to refer to the hunting regulations for the 
exact locations and dates.&amp;nbsp; The bow season opens the end of September 
and then closes in mid-October for the gun seasons.&amp;nbsp; It reopens again 
the beginning of December and stays open through the end of the year.&amp;nbsp; 
Furbearer hunting opens about the beginning of November and continues 
until the mid/end of February, except for coyote whose season continues 
until the end of March.&amp;nbsp; Depending on the zone, the small game seasons 
end in February or March.&lt;br&gt;

New York has a well designed map and seasonal regulation summary for 
hunters that can be printed off for reference while hunting.&amp;nbsp; It fits on
 one sheet of paper and is very concise.&amp;nbsp; The links provide the full

Looking to the southeast, there are additional options that are not 
available to us northern hunters, namely Armadillos, Alligators and 
Feral Hogs. Armadillos as well as coyotes do not have a closed season, 
meaning they can be hunted year round.&amp;nbsp; While Feral Hogs are also 
available to hunt year round, with no limit, they do require a license.&amp;nbsp;
 The regulations state that you should contact the regional Game 
Management office near you for additional information. I have included 
the state Game Management number 770-918-6400.&amp;nbsp; Landowners and wildlife 
biologists encourage their harvest as they cause immense damage to the 
ecosystem. Squirrel season opens early and allows archers some early 
practice with an August 15th opening.&amp;nbsp; While all small game seasons end 
February 28th they have varied start dates from mid October through 
December. Gator season, September1st to October 7th, overlaps exactly 
with the first archery season for deer.&amp;nbsp; Statewide in Georgia, the 
archery season is from September 8th until October 12th. The archery 
season reopens again in January after the &quot;gun&quot; seasons, but late season
 archery has a great range of dates, rules, and limits based on 
individual counties so make sure you refer to the regulations. &lt;br&gt;
&lt;br&gt;
Of the states I examined, Georgia regulations proved to be the most 
complex as they are regulated by counties.&amp;nbsp; The guide does an excellent 
job of explaining the process, but it definitely is different from what I
 am used to.&lt;br&gt;

Heading to the desert southwest, Arizona also offers the Minnesota 
hunter a wide variety of unique bow hunting options.&amp;nbsp; This state offers 
the largest selection of animals, of the states I've reviewed, and the 
longest seasons.&amp;nbsp; There are two deer species available to hunters in 
Arizona and their seasons start as early as August 24th and continue to 
December 31st.&amp;nbsp; The largest obstacle to hunting in this state is the 
high non-resident fees that eliminate most of the economical options.&amp;nbsp; 
Many of the unique big game species have similar seasons to the deer in 
Arizona.&amp;nbsp; The total price for nonresidents start at $370 for deer and go
 as high as $5600 for Buffalo.&amp;nbsp; Cougar, Elk, Antelope, Bighorn Sheep, 
and Bear tags fall in between these two numbers.&amp;nbsp; &lt;br&gt;
&lt;br&gt;
What's left? Turkey, Javelina, small game, or predators, but even these 
push the limits of what's affordable for out of state hunters at around 
$250.&amp;nbsp; A Javelina license allows you&lt;b&gt; &lt;/b&gt;to harvest two animals per 
license, which is a nice option.&amp;nbsp; The spring archery hunt occurs during 
January and the regular gun hunt has seasons throughout February.&amp;nbsp; The 
regular Turkey opens statewide April 26th and closes the 23rd of May.&amp;nbsp; 
It does have three specific seasons within the general season so check 
the official guidelines for exact dates.&amp;nbsp; The archery only Turkey 
Nonpermit-tag season occurs May 10 - May 23, 2013 within the regular 
Turkey season.&amp;nbsp; Bows can be used throughout the regular season.&lt;br&gt;
&lt;br&gt;
If you are interested in predator or small game and don't have much time
 to hunt, the 3-day license is the perfect option. If you have the 
opportunity to hunt longer, the general license would be the way to go.&amp;nbsp;
 Coyotes and skunks as well as cottontail and jackrabbits offer the 
hunter year long options. All other fur-bearing predators have a season 
from August to March.&amp;nbsp; If quail are your quarry there are varying start 
dates, but they all end in February. &lt;br&gt;
&lt;br&gt;
If you are planning a trip to Arizona there are a great variety of 
hunting opportunities available.&amp;nbsp; The main regulations allow hunters to 
collect the needed information for their trip.&amp;nbsp; They also have season 
specific booklets as well and special draw booklets to supplement the 
main regulations.&amp;nbsp; If you want a permit-tag these need to be applied for
 ahead of time and the deadline has already occurred (October 9th), 
however there are also nonpermit-tags available over the counter.&lt;br&gt;

I will be wrapping up my regional bow hunting summary with the state of 
Washington.&amp;nbsp; Of the states examined, Washington is the only one that 
offers some big game options that fall within the economical perimeters 
already discussed.&amp;nbsp; This includes both cougar and bear and both have 
seasons that fall outside of our archery deer seasons.&amp;nbsp; Washington has 
three different deer species and their seasons start September 1st and

If you choose one of the big game options you may add the small game 
license.&amp;nbsp; This reduces your cost by $96.80 (nonresident) and allows you 
additional hunting opportunities.&amp;nbsp; Washington is divided into Hunt areas
 and may have different laws based on the animals you choose to hunt.&amp;nbsp; 
Cougar tags are available over the counter. &amp;nbsp; No drawing is needed, 
however, prior to your hunt check to ensure the Hunt area is open.&amp;nbsp; Each
 Hunt area has quotas and if the quota is met the area will be closed 
for the season.&amp;nbsp; The Cougar season runs from September 1st until March 
31st, or until the quota is met.&amp;nbsp; If you choose to hunt Black Bear in 
the spring the application process is between January 2nd and&amp;nbsp; midnight 
on February 28, 2013.&amp;nbsp; If chosen, the Spring Black Bear hunt has two 
different seasons depending on the Hunt area.&amp;nbsp; They are April 1st to 
June 15th or a slightly shorter season opening April 15th and May 31st.&lt;br&gt;
&lt;br&gt;
Small game and predators have the same season opener as deer except most
 end the 15th of March, with the exception of Forest Grouse, which ends 
December 31st.&amp;nbsp; The predators include only Bobcat, Fox, and Raccoon.&amp;nbsp; 
The small game includes only Cottontail and Snowshoe Rabbits.&amp;nbsp; Coyotes 
can be hunted year round, but you must have a small game license.&amp;nbsp; The 
crow season is open from October through January.&lt;br&gt;
&lt;br&gt;
If you choose to hunt Turkey, the spring season runs from April 15-May 
31.&amp;nbsp; You may take only Male turkeys or turkeys with visible beards.&lt;br&gt;
&lt;br&gt;
Washington may be a destination if you want a chance at some big game 
species at an affordable price.&amp;nbsp; Their regulations are also user 
friendly, available online, and allow extended hunting opportunities.&lt;br&gt;

 better prepared you will be.&amp;nbsp; Extending your season by bowhunting big 
game, small game, nuisance animals, varmints, and predators can give you
 an economical option that will maintain or improve your form and muscle
 memory.&amp;nbsp; It will also give you practice at a whole spectrum of hunting 
opportunities.&amp;nbsp; Whatever species you choose, it will give you further 
practice in scent control, camouflage, and shot placement.&lt;br&gt;

hours at 300&lt;font&gt;&lt;font&gt;°&lt;/font&gt;&lt;/font&gt;F  or until meat falls apart, 
flip the roast once half way through the baking process. Add water as 
needed to keep moist, I try to maintain at least 1/2 inch of liquid in 
the container while baking.&amp;nbsp; With two forks shread the roast in the 
pan.&amp;nbsp; At this point the meat/liquid mixture can be frozen or is ready 
for sandwiches.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;br&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;This meal is great for parties. You can
 make it ahead of time and freeze it. It then can be kept warm in a 
crock pot on low.&amp;nbsp; Make sure you have enough liquid so it does not dry
